President Bush has lifted the executive ban on offshore drilling putting the onus squarely on the shoulders of our Democratic "friends" in Congress. The executive repeal alone, unfortunately, will not be enough to get this online. Congress needs to vote to allow this to happen. The President urged Congress to act first but nothing happened, so he has taken measures to show his commitment. We will have to see what Congress does now.
Should they delay any vote, these Dems will have to go home to face the people that elected them. Nancy Pelosi will have to look the people of San Francisco in the eye, where gas proces are the highest in the nation, and tap dance like crazy to defend her weak position. A position that by her very actions - calling on the President to release reserves - is one she hardly believes.
We have heard this song and dance for far too long. Yes, it will take time to get the oil flowing. Yes, we need an alternative. You have had 30 years to make that happen and now here we are. We are hostage to countries that despise us and sell us our oil. If we were self reliant with our own supply, they would have nothing over us right now. Is the right approach to keep begging and kissing their feet for more oil supply? Sue them? I am sure they are quaking in their sandals now! We need to take action to let them know we are indeed serious.
I have a hard time believing that anybody thinks this motley bunch in Congress has a clue of what to do. We need to get the lawyers out of Congress starting this November because all they ever think about is attacking big business and costly litigation. However, I am sure to retain their power, the Dems in Congress will make some pawlty attempt to "appease" the masses by coming up with some legislation allowing drilling that either ties to amnesty for illiegals, or ladens it with so many regulations and restrictions that it would make it so that drilling would be too expensive for the oil companies to even consider it. To the liberal morons, it will look to them like Congress actually tried with the oil companies looking the part of the demons again.
Don't be fooled again!
